/TOPICS · STAKEHOLDER & COMMS
Everything we have written on stakeholder & comms.
Stakeholder mapping, roadmap communications and the engagement cycles that make the conversation productive instead of defensive.
ServiceNow stakeholder management is the structured practice of mapping, engaging and communicating with the people who influence platform decisions, from executive sponsors and business-unit leads to sceptics and passive resisters, using engagement cycles rather than broadcast communications.
Roadmap communications fail upstream of the roadmap. That insight drives both editions in this cluster. The problem is rarely that the roadmap is wrong - it is that the conversation about the roadmap happens too late, with the wrong people, using the wrong format. By the time the roadmap reaches a steering committee, the political positions are already set and the presentation becomes defensive rather than productive.
The roadmap communications edition redesigns the engagement cycle. Instead of building the roadmap and then selling it, the framework embeds stakeholder input into the roadmap construction process. The result is a document that stakeholders recognise as partly theirs - which changes the dynamic from approval-seeking to collaborative refinement. The stakeholder-engagement cycle covers cadence, format and the specific conversation structures that make each touchpoint productive.
The stakeholder mapping edition introduces four archetypes that appear in every ServiceNow transformation: the champion, the sceptic, the passive resister and the disengaged sponsor. Each archetype requires a different engagement strategy and a different communication artefact. Knowing which archetype is in the room changes the brief you deliver - a champion needs evidence to amplify, a sceptic needs risk mitigation data, a passive resister needs a private conversation, and a disengaged sponsor needs a problem statement tied to their own objectives.
ServiceNow stakeholder management at this level is a repeatable operating discipline. The Manual treats it as governance infrastructure, not soft-skills advice.
